Regenerative Medicine FAQ’s

Regenerative Medicine FAQ’s Houston

Umbilical Cord Tissue, Amnion, Exosome, PRP

What kind of cell therapy is used?
We use platelet rich plasma (patient’s own blood), umbilical cord tissue, wharton’s jelly cells, amniotic membrane and fluid and exosomes. They are considered wastes of the birthing process. Please understand that these do not contain aborted fetal tissue or embryonic cells. They are young, day zero cells and come from healthy mother donors. These regenerative cell products are available in cryopreserved and dehydrated forms.
Degenerative arthritis, acute and chronic injury, autoimmune conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus) stroke victims, heart and lung conditions, MS, Parkinson, fibromyalgia, generalized body aches and pain, frailty of aging, peripheral neuropathy, COPD and many other conditions. Please ask the doctor if you’d like to know if a certain condition can be helped with this type of therapy.
It depends on the patient’s age. Someone in their 40s and 50s may need another injection in their lifetime, but someone in their 60s or 70s may not need another treatment. Unlike drugs and steroid which provide only temporary relief, regenerative medicine provides long term results and has a strong safety profile.
No, they do not contain aborted fetal tissues. These tissues are considered a biological waste. These do not come from embryonic stem cell. The tissues are donated from healthy mothers in a hospital setting giving both via a c section delivery.
Majority of our patients report 60-80% reduction in symptoms in 3-8 months. The results also depend on the patient’s compliance.
The injection itself takes 15-30 minutes and usually performed with local anesthesia. IV injections take about 15 minutes.
Rehab therapy takes approximately 1 hour.
Regenerative medicine has a very strong safety profile. When side effects are reported, they are mild and usually go away without any intervention.
Depending on your condition, and how long you’ve had it, the care plan with regenerative medicine can be 4 to 12 weeks. Most of our patients come in with chronic, degenerative conditions and have been suffering for years. These conditions require some time to heal and let the stem cells regenerate. If you are out of town, we set up follow up visits via telephone and email communications.
FDA “approves” or “disapproves” food, drug and medical devices. Since cell therapy is not food, drug, nor medical device, they don’t require FDA’s approval. However, they are rigorously regulated by FDA 361 tissue product guidelines to ensure they are safe, effective and clean, much like the way donated blood is regulated.
Some of the rehab therapies may be covered by insurance, however, regenerative medicine is considered an elective service and insurances do not pay for these types of service. However, some patients are able to use an HAS card. We have various options and finance plans available to fit most patient’s budget.
The cost of the regenerative medicine varies greatly depending on the types of tissue or cells used. PRP costs $850 per injection and cryopreserved umbilical cord tissue is $6,500 per 1cc (per unit). Amniotic tissues are in the $3,000 range. Typically, the more you purchase, the price comes down, and there are different ways to save. Our dedicated Case Managers will work out a plan that best fits your budget.
