A migraine is an extreme headache that can often come with other side effects, including impaired vision, a feeling of nausea, sensitivity to sound, light and/or smells, and even more drastic symptoms that can hinder one’s daily routine or even their entire lifestyle.
Types of Migraines
There are several types of migraines, ranging from those that occur chronically to those that are more seldom.
Chronic Migraine
While a chronic migraine is most easily defined as a headache that appears more than 15 days a month, some people are able to spot definite triggers, while others seem to have no apparent cause. Sometimes lack of sleep or caffeine, dietary changes, or hormonal changes are responsible, and those who suffer from chronic migraines often experience drastic effects in their lives.

Migraine Without Aura
The most common type of migraine is a migraine without aura, meaning it doesn’t have neurological side effects. These can be recognized by several key common denominators, such as throbbing pain, often on one side of the head. It can often be accompanied by nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting. Oftentimes bright lights and loud sounds can make these migraines worse.
Migraine With Aura
The most severe type of migraine is a migraine with aura. These have many of the same symptoms as the migraine without aura, but will also experience negative neurological impairments on a short-term basis (generally less than one hour in duration).
Such impairments can include temporary blindness, tunnel vision, and seeing stars or colored spots. You may also feel dizzy, pins and needles or tingling in your extremities. Some people can even have trouble with memory, hearing or speech, or faint (usually prior to the onset of the migraine).
Chiropractic Adjustments for Migraine Relief
As painful (and common) as this condition is, many patients are told the only way to treat migraines and severe headaches is through drugs, whether over the counter or prescription. There are actually natural treatments available that work to help fix the cause of these symptoms, allowing you to get back to your normal life.
One of the most successful natural migraine treatments is chiropractic adjustments. By using proven manual techniques to help the spine maintain proper alignment, tension can be relieved, and normal motion and shape can be restored to the spinal cord. This is often the source of the headache, and relief is achieved.
